PROGRAM GOALS

There will be different reading goals based on age:

Babies & Tots are still being read to. The recommended minutes for this group is 10 minutes per day for five days a week. The program goal for babies & tots is 300 minutes.

Children & Tweens should read at least 20 minutes a day. That is the recommendation for preventing summer slide for school age children. Their program goal is 600 minutes.

For teens and adults we recommend at least 30 minutes a day with a minimum of 900 minutes to complete the program

Print, audio & digital materials all count. Minutes read will determine the reading incentive/prize levels.
Reading incentives/prizes will be awarded while supplies last.

The bikes are the overall reading incentive for the online drawing at the end of the program for those who complete the minimum program goal. Participants must have reported online and reached the program goal for each age level to be included in the online bike drawing. Last day to report minutes will be 16 July at 8:00 am. Winners will notified using the information in the registration account and will also be announced on Beat the Heat day, 16 July 16.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The age groups are important because the reading incentives such as t-shirts, bags, and bike drawings will be done by age. Each reader needs to have an account to receive prizes and be included in drawings.

Parents of young children can sign up themselves or the sign up the oldest child and then add other children to that account by age group so they only have to log in once to post all their children’s reading. In order to post minutes read, log-in to the managing account and pull up each child.

Older children, teens and adults may create their own individual summer reading account.

Upon registering for this year's program, you will need to verify your email address by selecting the "Click here to verify" link in the email sent to your email account.
